Troubleshooting & FAQ
The Scene Inventory shows nothing, or too little
Section titled “The Scene Inventory shows nothing, or too little”- Is Octane installed and loaded in this Cinema 4D? Scatter objects, and some Octane tags and materials, are only recognised through the Octane plugin.
- Click Scan Scene — the inventory refreshes when you switch scenes, but not when you add or delete things in the same scene.
- Lights are only Octane lights if they carry an Octane light, Daylight or Environment tag. Cameras need an Octane Camera tag.
“Missing assets” after converting
Section titled ““Missing assets” after converting”Building the Redshift materials can leave entries in Cinema 4D’s asset list that look like missing files but aren’t. That’s why, after a conversion that included materials, clicking OK in the Conversion Complete window opens the Project Asset Inspector. Right-click the false entries and choose Clear Assets.
A texture is missing on a converted material
Section titled “A texture is missing on a converted material”The converter uses the file path stored in the Octane material. Where Octane stored only a file name, that name is all the Redshift Texture Sampler gets. Open the material in the node editor and set the full path on the Texture Sampler. Moving the scene without its textures has the same effect.
The lights are far too bright or too dark
Section titled “The lights are far too bright or too dark”Octane’s watts and Redshift’s intensity don’t correspond; the converter’s factors are a starting point. Retune by eye. See Intensity is a starting point.
An IES light has no profile
Section titled “An IES light has no profile”A Photometric light becomes a Redshift IES light, but its IES file isn’t carried across. Load the profile on the Redshift light. See Converting lights.
My render settings preset was renamed “Redshift”
Section titled “My render settings preset was renamed “Redshift””That’s expected — every conversion switches the active render settings to Redshift and names the preset Redshift. Rename it back if you like; the Redshift settings stay. See Render settings.
Where is the report?
Section titled “Where is the report?”Click Save Report in the Conversion Complete window. If the scene was saved, there’s also a
copy next to it called <scene name>_conversion_report.txt. Nuke Octane writes its own,
<scene name>_nuke_report.txt.
I converted twice and now have two of everything
Section titled “I converted twice and now have two of everything”Converting again in the same session asks whether to Overwrite or Create Duplicates. Create Duplicates keeps everything the first run made. Delete the extra copies — they’re in the Redshift layers — or undo and convert again choosing Overwrite. See Converting again.
Can I convert just part of a scene?
Section titled “Can I convert just part of a scene?”You can convert just some kinds of thing — untick passes under What to Convert. Each pass always converts every Octane item of that kind in the scene.
Does it need Octane installed?
Section titled “Does it need Octane installed?”To convert, yes — see Getting started. After converting and running Nuke Octane, the scene no longer needs it.
Nothing happens when I open the panel
Section titled “Nothing happens when I open the panel”The converter needs a valid licence or trial. If the licence window appeared and was closed without activating, the panel doesn’t open. See Licensing & support.
Still stuck?
Section titled “Still stuck?”Click Save Report after converting, and send the report with your question — see Licensing & support. It shows exactly what the converter did.
